If XTO and the other gas companies in the area are allowed to drill where they want to, this is what Southlake will look like soon. The City of Colleyville permitted the Titan Colleyville site in November. Preparations for drilling have commenced; the rig is on site. (7504 Pleasant Run)
XTO applied for permits with both the Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) and the City of Southlake for the JGJ (Milner) unit and the Joe Wright units. JGJ (Milner site) was approved by Southlake City Council 5-2 on February 22nd. City Council voted against the Joe Wright site on March 29th. The additional sites on this map that are located in Southlake have been permitted by the RRC, but have not been filed with the City of Southlake.
For each site, a one-mile radius has been plotted (as close as possible). Understand; one mile is NOT a magical boundary. Emissions from these sites will pollute ALL of Southlake!
The sheer concentration of wells near our Southlake Town Square and schools is very concerning.
Mayor Terrill has said this map is misleading, that the Zena Rucker site and Gateway sites are not supported by the current city council so we don’t need to worry about them. Really? Mr Terrell just hosted his “Q&A” work shop during which he and the “city” attorneys explained that we have to let them drill or the city will get sued. We have granted variances on the Milner site to less than 330 ft for protected structures. We will be performing a “regulatory taking” of the mineral estate if we don’t approve these sites. “Our hands are tied”.
The truth is that our council has decided to govern out of fear (“risk management”) rather than concern for it’s citizens. They would rather be sued by their own constituents than risk being sued by XTO. They are choosing political expediency rather than leadership.
The path is clear. No VARIANCES, stick to our ordinances!
